Nike x Tiffany & Co.: A sneakerheads’ dream collab?
When leaks of the upcoming Nike x Tiffany & Co. sneaker surfaced online last week, Tiffany executive Alexandre Arnault, the son of LVMH CEO Bernard Arnault, was quick to clarify on Instagram — and in a New York Times ad — that there was indeed a collaboration on the way, albeit obscured by a bright, Tiffany Blue box. Inside, you will find an all-black, mainly suede Air Force 1 with a Tiffany Blue swoosh. Photos and videos previously released on Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok revealed the presence of 925 sterling silver heel tabs and Tiffany writing sewn into the tongue tag.
The Nike x Tiffany Air Force 1 1837 pays homage to Tiffany’s “humble” beginnings as a “luxury goods shop,” where silver was king. But it’s also a showcase for its characteristic blue, which was chosen by the company’s founder, Charles Lewis Tiffany, in 1845 for its annual Blue Book, a catalogue from which rich customers could place orders and sample upcoming items.
While some fans thought that the first Tiffany sneaker would be primarily done in the brand’s characteristic blue, the new low-top shoe is crafted in black suede with a blue swoosh and co-branded silver trim on the rear of the shoe above the heels. The retail price is $400.
Tiffany & Co. has also launched a co-branded sneaker-inspired line of sterling-silver accessories ($250-$475), which will include a shoe horn, shoe brush, and a dubrae (ornamental tag) created for the Nike x Tiffany & Co. Air Force 1 1837 laces.
